What were some of the most valuable courses that you studied during your teacher training, and what should be included in new curriculum for teachers?

I majored in Special Education many years ago, and benefitted from a curriculum that was rich in child development, effective teaching methods, and knowledge of best practices in academic and behavioral interventions in the classroom. In the past few decades, new teachers from other professions entered schools with insufficient training, lacking knowledge in child development, curriculum, and the learning process. In my opinion, although individuals hold degrees in other areas, at least two years of education coursework should be required for new teachers to enter the classroom. All education degree programs should include additional coursework to prepare teachers to handle social, cultural, and emotional problems of students that exist in today's world.
