Teachers should be considered as a valuable part of the education system. We value our position in the classroom as a vital part of a child's life, but we are not allowed to do our job with the expertise that we have gathered through education and experience. The reason behind this educational mistake would be due to lack of funding from federal and state levels. Government spends more than they should on finding the correct ways to assess a student and/or a teacher, and changing the materials they use to teach the curriculum. If teachers were allowed to teach their students on their developmental level using the standards as guidelines instead of teaching to a test that only measures what a student can do on that day, our students would learn so much more. These tests do not take into account what a child has had to face in their life prior to that test. These tests do not take into account a child with a disability. These tests do not take into account a child with test anxiety. What each district needs more than tests, new & improved materials, and a better way to assess teachers is a lower student to teacher ratio. So if the government wants to spend money to improve the education system they should be spending it on more teachers, so the students receive more individualized attention from their educator.
